About The Wilson Reading System® (WRS)
Wilson Reading System® (WRS) is the flagship program of Wilson Language Training® and the foundation of all other Wilson® programs. The Tier 3 Structured Literacy program is based on phonological-coding research and Orton-Gillingham principles.
By providing intensive WRS instruction with a highly skilled teacher in small groups or individually, reading and spelling success is achievable.
Based on more than three decades of data, WRS is designed for students in Grades 2–12 and adults with word-level deficits who are not making sufficient progress through their current intervention, have been unable to learn with other teaching strategies, or who require more intensive Structured Literacy instruction due to a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia.
WRS supports college- and career-readiness standards by providing students who have a language-based learning disability with the foundational and language skills that are necessary to access grade-level text. This comprehensive program can follow students from grade to grade, as needed.

The Wilson Reading System® (WRS) Introductory Course is a 16.5-hour (3 day) professional learning experience that provides an overview of the Wilson Reading System and serves as the prerequisite for
WRS Level I Certification.
Who should attend?
Educators working with students in Grades 2–12 who have persistent reading and spelling difficulties, including students with dyslexia.
Participants will:
- Build an understanding of dyslexia and structured literacy.
- Learn the principles of explicit, systematic, multisensory instruction.
- Explore the 10-part WRS® Lesson Plan.
- Practice teaching foundational reading and spelling skills using WRS® instructional routines.
Upon Completion:
- Fulfills the prerequisite for Wilson Reading System® Level I Certification Training.
- Optional graduate credit available through Fitchburg State University.

Recognized as an International Dyslexia Association (IDA) AccreditedPlus program, WRS Level I Certification prepares educators to effectively implement WRS Steps 1–6 with through comprehensive coursework, individualized coaching, and a supervised practicum over a 12-month period.
Who should attend?
Educators working with students in Grades 2–12 who have persistent reading and spelling difficulties, including students with dyslexia.
Prerequisite: Wilson Reading System® (WRS) Introductory Course completed within the past five years.
Participants will:
- Deepen their understanding of dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities.
- Develop expertise in planning and developing and delivering diagnostic, explicit, systematic, multisensory structured literacy instruction using WRS Steps 1–6.
- Use assessment data to plan instruction, monitor student progress, and adjust lessons to meet individual student needs.
Upon Completion:
- Earn Wilson Reading System® Level I Certification and the Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.) credential.
- Optional graduate credits available through Fitchburg State University.
Wilson Language Training® and Wilson® Accredited Training Partners have received Accreditation Plus from the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). This designation recognizes that Wilson Reading System® certifications align with the IDA’s Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading.
